Grounded: An Experiment in Movement with Ro Clark

Using her wheelchair as an extension of the body, Ro Clark explores movement as a way of making marks across the ground. She asks: “After becoming paraplegic, how has my relationship with the ground changed, and how can I explore that relationship through painting?”

Developed during The Path, a creative development program facilitated by Dr Kellie O’Dempsey and delivered by The Refinery, this experiment forms part of the development of a new large-scale work spanning painting, film, performance and installation.

Grounded investigates how painting as performance, and the marks left behind, can reveal the constant negotiation of living with disability.
