LANTANA SPACE RESIDENCY PROGRAM 26/27

A studio-based residency supporting artists to develop their practice through experimentation, inquiry and sustained making.

Rather than prioritising finished outcomes, the residency creates space to explore new ideas, challenge existing ways of working and take creative risks.

Residency One
28 September - 22 November 2026

Residency Two
1 February - 28 March 2027

Each residency includes:

  • A $4000 artist stipend

  • 8 weeks dedicated studio space

  • Professional photographic documentation

  • A public engagement opportunity that best suits your practice. This may take the form of an open studio, artist talk or work-in-progress showing

Applications are open to:

  • Practising artists working across all creative disciplines and at any stage of their career

  • Individual artists, collaborators or collectives

  • Applicants residing anywhere in Australia

  • Artists aged 18 years and over

Assessment Criteria:

  • The quality and strength of your creative practice

  • The clarity and relevance of your proposed inquiry

  • How the residency will support the development of your practice

  • Your willingness to experiment, take creative risks

Frequently Asked Questions

  • LANTANA Space has step-free entry and accessible access to the studio area. Please note that there is currently no accessible bathroom on site.

    We recognise that access needs vary and will work with selected artists to understand their requirements.

    If the studio space does not meet your access needs, you are still encouraged to apply. Artists are welcome to undertake the residency from an alternative workspace that best supports their practice, provided they arrange the space independently.

    Applicants are encouraged to contact LANTANA before applying to discuss access requirements at contact@lantanaspace.com.

  • Yes. Applications are welcome from collaborators and collectives. Please note that the $4,000 artist stipend is fixed per residency and will be shared between all successful applicants.

  • No. Artists travelling from outside the region are welcome to apply. While residents are expected to actively use the studio throughout the residency, you are not required to live on the Sunshine Coast for the full two months. The residency can be undertaken in concentrated blocks of time, depending on the needs of your practice and availability to work from the sunshine coast

  • No. Successful applicants are responsible for arranging and covering the cost of their own travel and accommodation.

  • No. The residency supports experimentation, inquiry and the development of your practice. While each resident will participate in a public engagement opportunity, this will be developed in collaboration with LANTANA and may take the form of an open studio, artist talk, informal presentation or work-in-progress showing.

  • Yes. LANTANA does not take commission on artwork sales.

  • Yes. Successful applicants are required to hold $20 million Public Liability Insurance for the duration of the residency.
